Location props and costume report
I have not used any props for the images for my cover page
as I wanted the image to be more focused on the model rather than something
else in the photo. I took these images in the studio at college so I would have
the green screen in the background. This was so that I could change the colour
and background in the editing process. My model was wearing old fashioned
clothes, hair and makeup in order to fit the theme of my magazine. My contents page images were also taken in
the studio so again I had the freedom to change the background in the editing
stages. My model is wearing quite formal, old fashioned clothing which I think
some of the male target audience would relate to. The prop that I used for this
shoot, was the coat that drapes across his shoulder.- This is to give the photo
added detail but I didn’t want the model wearing it as I think it would look to
formal and strict for my magazine. In the feature article images, I have taken
them in the American Diner on Yarmouth seafront as I think it fits the theme of
rockabilly as it shows old fashioned America. My model is again wearing old
fashioned clothing, hair and makeup for these photos so that it fits the theme
of my magazine therefore, my audience can relate. The prop I have used in these
photographs are the tables and chairs in the diner as they fit in with the
culture of that America in the 60s and rockabilly.

Overview of magazine industry
There’s around 8000 titles published in the UK which are
categorised into different sections such as; consumer which is general
magazines which are sold in the newsagents or online, staff magazine which are
magazines which inform staff about their company and academic journals which
are magazines for people in things such as university. The largest magazine
publishers in the consumer category are; Bauer which owns 25% of the magazines
being published in the UK, IPC MEDIA which is now known as Time Warner who own
20% of the magazines being published in the UK, the BBC who own 7.8% of the
magazines being published and finally Hearst who own 7.3% of the magazines
being published here in Britain. In the UK there are over 3,200 different
consumer titles where as in 1980 there were only 1,383 consumer titles; from
this we can see a massive rise in the publishing industry. On average 1.4
billion magazines are sold each year where in the 1970’s 2.1 billion where
sold, this shows us that the progression of technology has made it easier to
access magazines. 85% of people Britain read magazines spending 2 billion
pounds on magazines yearly. Advertisers spend over 700 million pounds on
magazines which were recorded in 2008 and on average 500 new magazines are
launched every year for the past 10 years. A brief history of the magazine
industry looks as the following; In the 1970’s magazines such as Cosmopolitan
where published and these offered women freedom in a manmade world and in the
2000’s magazines such as Heat and Hello where launched which offered a new
culture in depth information on Celebrity life styles.
